Pain Management

We have always been aware of patients concerns over injections, which is why we use the Wand STA to administer local anaesthetic, and have done so since we established in 2000. Patients are amazed at how much the experience of numbing is improved by its use.

Much of the discomfort associated with standard syringe injections is caused by the rapid build up of fluid in the tissues, whilst with the Wand STA the local anaesthetic solution is administered in a slow and controlled manner reducing the likelihood of pain.

Fillings

There are various materials that are available to fill a cavity in your tooth. We will provide you with the various options and advise upon the most appropriate material for each individual case.

Composite Resin White
Fillings

This is used to match your natural tooth colour making the filling less obvious
It allows for minimally invasive treatment meaning more of your natural tooth is preserved.

Glass Ionomer
Fillings

Another tooth coloured material, this has the benefit of bonding directly to the tooth and also has the potential to leach out fluoride to the surrounding tooth and serves well in restoring fractured teeth or helping to arrest early decay.

Amalgam
Fillings

This is an option for back teeth but is less popular due to its noticeable colour.

Crowns

Crowns are made to cover a broken or heavily filled tooth, or may help to improve the appearance of discoloured or misshapen teeth.

A crown may also be required to protect a root canal treated tooth.

There are a variety of materials used to make crowns these are porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, zirconia, gold alloy and other metal based alloys.

Treatment usually involves two appointments, the first is for preparation of the tooth and the making and fitting of a temporary crown.

The second appointment is for the fit of the custom made crown which will be cemented in place once the fit and appearance has been checked.

Root Canal Treatments

Sometimes decay or trauma to a tooth can cause damage to the nerve and blood supply within the tooth, leading to infection. This is often, but not always associate with pain, prior to the nerve dying off.

This is when root canal treatment is required to reduce the risk of an abscess developing, or even the need to lose the tooth.

The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, should not be uncomfortable, and normally involves a couple of appointments.

As a result of loss of nerve and blood supply, the tooth may become more brittle long term, so once reviewed, we may recommend a crown to be made to strengthen the remaining tooth structure.
